J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings stands in a class of its own, defining the genre of high fantasy and setting a stage for modern writers to come. Academics could spend endless hours dissecting the glorious epic; in college, I took a full seminar course devoted explicitly to The Lord of the Rings, and there still wasn't enough time to cover it all.
I cannot help but believe divine inspiration guided Tolkien's mind and pen in creating this masterpiece. With depth, beauty, and entertainment all seamlessly woven together, it's hard not to nerd out over The Lord of the Rings.
But to be clear, I'm not the kind of fan who can reference The Silmarillion to answer your esoteric question on Middle Earth. I'm the kind of fan who would hum the theme song when walking over a hill, or who would have a beer in the shady corner of a pub and pretend I'm Strider.
You see, I can appreciate high-brow literary merit. But that's not why I love the book.
The core reason I love The Lord of the Rings is the same reason I'm starting this website. And guess what? That reason comes from none other than Sam Gamgee:
"There's some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for."
— Sam Gamgee
That's all there is to it. It's a story about fighting for goodness in a world that is being swallowed by evil. If you are living your life fighting for goodness, then this story should be familiar to you. It's your story. It's my story. And it's anybody's story who can clearly see that the goodness at stake is worth fighting for, despite the odds being overwhelmingly stacked against them.
It doesn't matter how forsaken or impossible the quest may be—if there is still goodness to protect, we keep on fighting, until death do us part.
I hope and pray this website brings common ground to those of us still fighting.
